WOMEN AND CHURCH

At a moating, of the' General. Assembly of the Church of Scotland, held a few weeks ago, it was decided to admit won-iei to the diaconate on tho same terms as men, but women were still refused i dinission to tho ministry of the Church or to eldership. The origi nal petition on the subject in 1931, asked for fjio admission of women to all three branches of Church activity, but the committee which reported to tho meeting asked ouly for the one concession. When the report was prosentod it was stated that tho presbyteries had voted 50 to 16 against tho ad mission of women to eldership, but they had not been asked to vote on the question of admission to the ministry. To lessen tho disappointment of.women, it was said that a cotntnission or committee in,the future might bo appointed to go into the who.'c matter of women's work in tho Chur'h.
