FURTHER EVIDENCE GIVEN

Further' evidence for. the prosecution was given in the Magistrate's Court today on tho resumption of tho case against Clara Nicholson, alias Naylor, who is charged with manslaughter. Yesterday's proceedings are reported on page 21. Mr. E. Page, S.M., is on the Bench. Detective-Sergeant Bevell is representing the police, and Mr. J. Meltzer the accused.

Continuing her evidence Elizabeth May Metcalf, describing the second visit to the houso in Island Bay on. Juno 13, said slio asked the woman what she had done, and the reply referred to an instrument. At the nursing home the deceased produced an instrument, but Nurse de Burren. came in and said she would burn it.

Following tho death of the girl, tho witness said she accompanied detectives to Island Bay, and pointed out tho house she and the deceased had visited. Witness described, as far as she, could remember, the interior of tho houso and tho dress of the ■woman whom, she saw.

Nurse Eachael de Burrcn, a registered nurse, described the visit of the girl and her friend, whom she knew as May, to her nursing homo. After the girl was admitted au instrument was handed to witness, and she burnt it; witness did not use an instrument on tho girl.

To Mr. Meltzer, witness said that it was May who handed her the instrument with tho request that she should burn it, and it was May's suggestion that Dr. Cotton • should be sent for.

• Be-examined, witness said that she mentioned tho names of several doctors to the girl, but she refused to have them, saying she had private reasons. Sho agreed, however, to Dr. Cotton attending her. ' ,
