SERIOUS DISTURBANCE

JAGIRDAR AND STATE FORCES

CALCUTTA, August 8.
A serious disturbance is reported at ditch, a native State of Western India, where a jagirdar (or. wealthy landowner) with several, hundred armed retainers is engaged in guerrilla warfaro with the State forces.
The jagirdar, resenting the acquisition by the State authorities of a piece of land he desired to purchase, endeavoured to seize the property by force, but the State police guards opened fire, killing two and injuring one of his men. The jagirda'r's men thei'eupon ordered the inhabitants of forty villages under his ownership to arm and assemble to attack the State forces.
A pitched battle is stated to have taken place, but there are no details.
