LONDON, August 8.

Low scoring was the Order of the day in the cricket match, Australia v. Warwickshire, commenced at Birmingham today. . The weather was fine, though, tiic wicket was affected, by rain. The Australians, batting first, ' were dismissed for-221, Grimmett making top score with 38 not out. Paine and Croom were the vwost successful bowlers for Warwickshire, who, at stumps, had made only 20 runs for the loss of three wickets. The Australians were captained by A. F. Kippax, who won tho toss. Owing to tho death of his father, W. 11. Ponsford was omitted from the Australian team, McCabc opening with Brown. K. E. S. Wyatt, England's "captain, was not prevented through his injured thumb from leading the county team. The teams are:— . ' ; : 1 Kippax and Chipperfield batted well until Paine, who is being, watched by the Test selectors, palpably worried Kippax and eventually claimed his wicket. Chipperfield continued to bat nicely until he played a ball on to his wicket. When Bromley went the total was 123 for six wickets. Grimmett and Oldfield figured in a stand which produced 50 runs in 'forty minutes before Oldfield was dismissed, a catch ending an excellent fighting innings. Grimmett was applauded for making top score of tho innings, which lasted 260 minutes. ' Warwickshire's innings was commenced at 5.40 p.m. in indifferent light.
