The wives of several senior offioors were also present.
Mr. J. Robertson, who was in charge of the Department during the DirectorGeneral's absence, welcomed Mr. and Mrs. McNamara on behalf of officers generally. In the course of hia remarks Mr! Bobcrtson said that there was no doubt that Mr. MeNamara had done more fjhan anybody else to bring about the co-operation between all ranks of the service which so'obviously now existed anid which was 'primarily responsible for flio efficient working of the Departm«ent. Tho whole staff were now ranged togetbor on one sido working as a team works for the good of the side, and the side was most ably captained by the present Director-General. At the conclusion: of Mr. Robertson's remarks the gathering sang most heartily "For He's a Jolly Good Follow." Mr. MeNsunara's usual calm was disturbed by the sizo and sincerity of tho gathering. He thanked those present for the groat reception which had been accorded Mrs. McNamara and himself, and gave a roost interesting description of his travels abroad.
