PROFIT FOR YEAR
Last year's operations of. tho Kailway Department's' road motor services resulted in a. profit of £2368, compared with £521 for'tho previous year. Details, which are shown in the Railways Statement, presented to Parliament today, are as follows: — 3933-34. 1932-33. Variation. ""£ . £ £ Revenue 79,184 78,644 -f- 540 Expenditures. . 76,816 78,123 —1,307 Net revenue £2,368 "£521 + £ 1,847 "Ifis to be noted," the report states, "that the . net return shown, above is calculated after interest has been debited on tho capital invested in the services, and allowance made for depreciation on vehicles and plant." The total passenger journeys were 2,783,184, as compared with 2,740,263 for the year ended March 31, 1933. HlrfT VALLEY SERVICE. Details of tho Hutt Valley service are as follows: — 1933-34. 1932-33. Variation. • £ £ £ Revenue- ■•.-.... 55,519 55,652 —133 Expenditure .54,000, 55,222 —1,222 Net revenue £1,019 £430 -f- £1,089 Passenger journeys totalled 2,083,935, an increase of 23,622 compared with tho previous year. This increase was principally in short-distance fares, but a slight falling-off in the passenger traffic on the longer routes resulted in the revenue for the year under review decreasing by £133. The , expenditure decreased by £1222, which decrease is duo to a reduction in operatingexpenses. . Bus-milage totalled 879,226, a decrease of 7332 miles compared with the.previous year.
