VISIT TO MELBOURNE
NEW ZEALAND'S DELEGATES
CENTENARY CELEBRATIONS
Members of both Houses of the Legislature are taking a considerable interest, in the meeting of the New Zealand branch of tho Empire Parliamentary Association which is being held at 4.30 o'clock this afternoon to select a member to proceed to Melbourne as tho officia 1 representative of the branch at the Victorian Centenary celebrations. Both Houses will adjourn early- this afternoon in order to allow members to attend the meeting.
Included in the list of those who have signified their willingness to undertake the 'duties aro Mr. W. P. Endean (Govt., Parnell), Mr. 11. S. S. Kyle (Govt., Riccarjton), Mr. H. Holland ("Govt., Christchurch North), Captain H. M. Rushworth (Country Party, Bay of*lslands), Mr. W. E. Parry (Labour, Auckland Central), Mr. W. E. Barnard (Labour, Napier), Mr. A. M. Samuel (Indepedent, Thames), and the Hon. R. McCallum, M.L.C. A ballot will be held to decide which member is to be New. Zealand's representative. In tho past voting at Parliamentary Association meetings has never been on party lines, consequently it is by no means certain that the selected member will be associated with the Government Party.
The expenses of the delegate are being paid b,y the Victorian Government. An invitation has also been received from the Commonwealth Government fox- the New Zealand Government to be represented at the celebrations by a Minister of the Crown. The selection of tho Minister is not likely to be made ,for some little time yet, but it is considered probable that the choice will fall*on the Minister of Internal Affairs (the Hon. J. A. Young). In the past few years the duty of receiving distinguished visitors to New Zealand has fallen to, Mr. Young, and there is a feeling that it would be appropriate if he were selected to take, part in the Victorian celebrations.
