RHODES SCHOLARS

WELLINGTON NOMINATIONS

Tho two Victoria University College nominees for this year's Rhodes scholarships are MX C. M. P. Brown and Mr. K. J. McNaught, B.Sc. Mr. Brown, who was born in Wanganui, was educated at tho Wanganui Collegiato School, achieving a number of successes on the scholastic side. Ho was prominent, in sport, being a member of the college rowing crew and captain of tho second fifteen. Two years ago ho entered Victoria College with a scholarship.- Rowing- still claims- his attention, and ho is very prominent in the literary ; life of the college, being editor of "Sinad," chairman of the Literary Society, and secretary of tho Debating Society. He will sit for tho final examination for the B.A. degree this year.

Mr. McNaiight was dux of tho Hastings Central.School in 1925. With- a Junior National ■ Scholarship ho went to tho Napier Boys' High School in 1926, but later in tho same year went on to the Wairarapa High School. Ho thero gained a Senior National Scholarship in 1927, passed the matriculation examination in 1928, and passed with credit in tho University Scholarship examination of 1930.

He came to Victoria University Collego in 1931, and took his B.Sc. degree last year, having kept first-class terms in ail subjects, with the exception of one unit. In 1931 he won the John T. Good Prize for mathematics, and in 1933 the Sir George Grey Scholarship at Victoria College and was equal with Mr. Rosen for the1 Sir Robert Stout Scholarship. Last year he qualified for the senior scholarship in geology, and this year is proceeding to M.Sc. and honours in chemistry.

: Ho captained a Rugby football team at the Wairarapa Boys' High School, and for tho past two years has captained a Victoria College fifteen, besides talcing part in swimming and tennis.
