CHAMPIONSHIP PROGRAMME

The monthly meeting of the Council of the ' New Zealand Golf Association was hold on Monday, when there were present: Sii- Alexander Roberts (chairman), .Messrs.'W. E. A. Gill. J. H. Drake, A. R. Selanders, and G. O. Sutton (secretary). .Championship Programme.—Certain alterations in the national championship programme, which had been approved of by the programme sub-committee, were adopted by the council as follows:—In the open conditions were aW tered so as to include any professional who, though not a member of a recognised professional golfers' association, is a member of one of the affiliated clubs. The condition regarding the drawing of competitors in the open championship will now read'as follows: "In event No. 1 professionals will be drawn with amateurs in siM manner, having regard to the respective skill of the various players, as the, committee may deckle. All starting j times will be balloted for."

As the result of an inquiry from a New Zealander at present in London a cablegram was sent recently to him. indicating that the association would welcome a visit by a isritish nmatem1 golf team, and would' arrange matches ■ and asking for cabled advice as to the number of players and the'--approximate dates of their arrival in and departure from/New Zealand. It. was resolved to reinstate to amateur status, in so far us it applies to New. Zealand, Mr. J. B. Wallace. . . . 'A letter was received from the English -Golf Union enclosing specimens of the scores register in use in. England, - which apparently is only for the purpose of keeping at headquarters a record' of performances of Category A players, that is, 3 handicap or under.. It.was reported that the two professionals on tour are still receiving bookings., and as the season is drawing to a close clubs which still require their services arc asked to make early requests.

The secretary reported that a letter had been sent to the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews inquiring as to whether it is really their intention that a club may. not be grounded upon grass in any -hazard other than a bunker.

A supply.of programmes and entry forms was received for a returned • soldiers' Centenary golf tournament in Melbourne in November. It was resolved to circulate those.
