HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
The Hquso of Representatives .mot at 2.30 p.m. today. Mr. J. ,O'Brien (Labour, Westland) gave notice, to ask tho Minister of -Justice whether he would annul the ..sentence of fourteen days' imprisonment on a lad at Greymouth for taking part' in an industrial dispute.
Mr. K. J. Holyoakc (Government, Motueka) asked tho'Minister of Public Works whether he had yet reached a decision regarding the Buller Couuty Council's and Karamea residents'' request for Government financial assistance- to undertake the Karaniea River protection works, recommended in the report recently obtained by the Buller County Council from Mr. I\ W. Turkert.,; "Even tho slightest floods in the Karamea River causo considerable damage, and loss to farmers throngh orosion-of valuable land, and the isolation of settlers through, tho flooding of roads,'* said Mr. Holyoake. The Minister (tho Hon. J. Bitchcnor) said tho matter was now awaiting tho consideration of Cabinet .
Moving for leavo to introduce the Destitute Persons Amendment Bill, Mrs. E. K. McC'ombs (Labour, Lyttclton) said that tho object of tho Bill was : to exclude from courts where domestic-casts were hoard, all persons who attended purely out of curiosity or who were morbid-minded.
The Bill was introduced and read a first time. ' . • ;
The Public Petitions Committee sub- ■' initted. a recommendation that the '■ Workers!, Compensation Act should bo amended to provide for 'the reopening of cases in which it was found that ,tli« compensation paid was inadequate. ■ . s . , (Proceeding.) '. ■ ,
