INTENSE INTEREST
EXPECTED SPEECH
GERMANY'S FOREIGN POLICY
LONDON, August 6. The "Daily Telegraph's" Berlin correspondent says there is intense interest in Herr Hitler's expected speech to the Reichstag, and there ara hopes that he will define Germany's attitude towards the eastern pact and Austria, as Germany's foreign policy is not.yet clear. There is also, curiosity as to who Horr Hitler will nominate us DeputyPresident. General Blombcrg, Minister of Defence,, ami Geueral Goering aro both favoured, but Horr Hess, who is Herr Hitler's most intimate friend, will be fully occupied with the management of the Nazi Party, which necessitates his continual presence at tho party headquarters at Munich. Older members of, the Nazi, Party are dismayed at Herr Hitler's acceptance of'tho Presidency and feel that he has deserted them. This makes Herr Hess's task more important. Nationalist and Conservative elements have recently developed a certain respect for Herr Hitler personally, although they detest hjs party. Now he is head of tho State, with the Eeichswchr behind liiin and assured of their loyalty, though National Socialism is weaker, Herr Hitler is momentarily stronger. Tho testing time is likely to come in the winter, with threatened hardships such as food- cards and the horrors Germany endured in the war. ■ '~ '. *
