LONDON HIDE MARKET.
■ "The Mdo market is disappointing," reported Weddel and Co., London, June 28. "It has fallen away during the week and we have lost practically all the ground we made in the previous fortnight. lu' other words, Buenos Aires heavy ox • are nominally today not worth ■ more than, say, about 4?Ad, and, even at this price there is as yet no rush to buy." In miscellaneous: and colonial hides some business has been done • with fractional . declines. W.S'. Victorian meatworks cows, for example, which recently made 4d,'.have now been sold at 3 7-Sd. New Zealand abattoir cows, 35-50Ib, have been sold at the same price. On the other hand Capes for later shipment are well bid for and shippers are finding it very difficult to fill these orders. All common African hides are nominally about ■■unchanged. No better reports have been received as regards the leather market; there is in fact a very quiet tone prevailing, but prices are steady. Tanners would gladly welcome a chance to clear some of their present large stocks, iin fact this srems to be the difficulty which is causing the raw hide market to weaken, and unfortunately this i9 ■ a difficulty , which seems to exist in almost every country today.
