MOTORIST FINED £15
"1 took the bend a little too wide," was the only explanation offered by James McPherson, aged 34, a ship's cook, in the Magistrate's Court today when he was charged with having been in a state of .intoxication while in charge of a. ear in Evans Bay Koad. He pleaded guilty and Mr. J. G. L. Hewitt, S.M., fined him £15 and cancelled his licence for nine mouths.
Senior-Sergeant J. Denvpsey said that McPherson had been paid off- on Saturday, and after visiting hotels between 5 and 6 p.m., where he had some drinks aud purchased liquor, he and some companions drove to Evans Bay Road, where more liquor was consumed. At about 7.45 p.m. MePhcrson was driving back to the city, when he struck another .car on a bend and pushed it some .distance. Dr. Ewart had certified that he was intoxicated and unfit to be in charge of a car.'
