Francis, a mining engineer'of Victoria, arrived',: by. tha Maunganui today from Sydney. Mr. J. Ashton, a prominent grazier of New South Wales and a former member of the New South Wales Legislative Council, is a "through passenger to San Francisco by the Maunganui which arrived today from Sydney. Mr. Ashton, who is on a trip to England, has been', associated .with politics in. Australia- for 'the past forty- years. He retired from/ the Legislative Council only a ; few. months ago.. \ Dr. N. Guthrie,:of Christchurch, returned south on Saturday evening. Mr. L. J.' Kogers, who is to carry out road tests in America with' petrol produced at Newnes, Australia, is a through passenger to San,Francisco on the Maunganui which arrived today; from-Sydney. • .' ■ . ;; ■''.'
