AUCKLAND, July 16. Pew can claim to havo made 150,000 return trips on tho Waitemata, yet this is only a modest computation of the number of crossings made by. Captain Frederick Thomas Devlin,: who. lias retired after being engaged in the .'ferry services between Auckland and Birkeiihead aud Northcoto foV 45 years. In a letter expressing regret at his resignation, the chairman of the Ferry Company (Mr. D. Holgate) conveyed the appreciation of directors that duriiig his 42 years of continuous.service with that company no serious accident had occurred to steamers under hia command.
