In the third round of the men'i doubles at the French tennis championships, Stefani and • Taroni defeated Legeay and Issuer, 6-4, 3-6,- 6-1,: 6-1. la tho quarter-finals, Borotra and Brugnoa defeated Austin>and Hare, 4-6, 6-3, 7-9, 6-4, 6-2; Turnbulland Quigt defeated Prenn and Hopman, 6-i, 6-3, Z^ t 7-5; Crawford' and McGrath. defeated; Stefani and Taroni, 6-?, 6-0,: 6-2.. In the doubles quarter-final, Mertzel and Hecht defeated Brugnon and Bei> nard, 6-2, 6^3, 3r6, 6-2. In the mixed quarter-final, Crawford . and .. Miss Scriven defeated . Bnzgnon and Miss Howard, 6-4,. 2-6, 6-0. . v In the quarterfinal of the -women* pingles, Frauleia C. Aussem defeated Miss Stammers, 6-4, 6-2. • ■ .In the women's doubles quarter-final, Mile. Mathieu and Miss Ryan defeated Misses Dearman and Lyle, 8-10, 6-3,
In the mixed doubles quarter-finals, Quisfc and Miss Ryan defeated Punceo and MHe. Couquerque, 5-7,. 6-1, 6-0; yon Cramm and Fraulein Horn, scratched to Hughes and Miss-Nuthall.
Both the Australian pairs scored impressive ; victories in the doubles, Craw ford and McGrath running through the Italians in - record time. McGrath's backhand was functioning perfectly, and Crawford was in something like] real form. ~ ,
Except in the third set when Hop-" man was particularly brilliant. Turnbull's fierce services and. Quist'i smashes dominated their xoateh. Prenn: was obviously below- form- Crawford and Miss Scriven played "brilliantly t« defeat Brugnon and Miss Howard ia the mixed, losing only one po'in* in th« last three games.
