Mr. P. D. Hoskins, New Zealand dis- t trict president of the Hibernian-Austra-lasian Catholic Benefit Society, occupied the chair at- the annual meeting olr:the;.organisation which was held yesterday-in the rooms of the St. Vincent"' de: Paul Society.; Delegates'from-all parts 6f\tue ; Dominion were present.
His Qiace Archbishop O'Shea/ S.M., welcomed the delegates, and expressed the hope that their deliberations :■ would result in the further advancement and wjifare of the society. ■?. ■. > ... The conference resolved that the bene-* fits of the National Provident Fund, as obtainable by. male members, ; be extended to include women - members. • Increased financial, assistance was-granted to . the various provincial councils throughout the Dominion.
The balance-sheet showed an increase in the consolidated sick and funeral benefit fund from £71,950 to /£76,775. It was decided to transfer £19,500-to, a' surplusl fund for the purpose of. paying portion of the contributions of members Co yearff of;age and over. .A further sum of £1000 was put aside to.assist members GO years of- age and over who might be in distress/ ihis is additional to the sum of £3000 already being used 'to assist unemployed members.-: ' ;.*, ..,
