WAR RELIEF
REPORTS TO EXECUTIVE
Callers at the office, of the Wellington War Belief Association numbered 384 during the month of May, and 125 claims were^;dealt with'-v]during nineteen working; days, stated; the report of. the applications and ■ emergency committees approved by.the executive committee meeting held yesterday. Those claims-:were confirmed by the applications committee which met on four occasions and dealt with 186 ■ applications. Fifty-six applications -are' still under action and the -total 'Claims received reached 242. i
"There has been no alteration in the general activities of- your committee," stated the report. , r "Assistance differing widely in description ha% been given to. disabled soldiers; to-men who were discharged fit and subsequently developed a war disability,: to the widows of soldiers who fell-in' action and_ of others dying of natural causes. Assistance has also been given to many others in necessitous circumstances, and in' many directions that:canndt be referred to within the limits- of this report." - . ■■
Expenditure made during the month totalled £310, 13s 3d, exceeding: the income of £226 6s 6d by £84-6s 9d, which was debited to capital. Four applications for loans were received by the finance committee but three having been submitted by fit men "were declined. The other application-was fora small advance to'a permanently disabled soldier and it was approved. Present at the. meeting were Messrs L. O. H. Tripp (chairman), A. Macintosh, G. Mitchell, H. W. Kersley C Watson, Dr. Theo G. Gray, H. HSeaton, B. J. McAlister, C. M. Luke! J. J. Esson, and A. O. Leach (secretary).
