A WADESTOWN ROAD

(To the Editor.)

Sir, —About two years ago, after a good deal of agitation, tho ratepayers of Cecil Roaa/Wadestown, managed to persuade tho City Council that it was time some of their money was spent on this road.

. The councill regraded the road and formed a footpath as far as "Wade Street. One would have thought that the council would have finished tho job by sealing it, but it has been left in the rough state, with tho result that after heavy rain the road is scoured' out (it is not level), and the council periodically fills up the holes, with rough blue metal, with the- result that the road is always in a rough state. Tho footpath, too, has not been finished. It is not so bad in the dry weather, but in wet weather it cuts up badly and becomes very muddy, and the ladies' shoes arc again in trouble. From ■■Wade Street the residents have no footpath, and are iorced to walk on the road (which is only 12ft to loft wide in places),, and in consequence they are in danger of being run down with motor traffic, especially women with prams, and also young children who are forced to use the road to go to and from school. Is the council going to wait until there ia an accident before doing something to improve this road, which is probably one of the oldest settled in "Wadestown? Will the Mayor and City Engineer be good enough to visit this road and see for themselves the necessity of improving it at once.—l .am, etc.,

RATEPAYER,
