TRANSPORT PROBLEM

(By Telegraph) (Special to the "Evening Post.")

AUCKLAND, April S,

Transport and traffic problems in Australia were investigated by Mr. G. Grey Campbell, a member of the Auckland City Council and the Auckland Transport Board, during a visit to the Commonwealth, where lie attended the Australian tramways conference.

Mr. Campbell said that all the Australian tramway systems were faced with the same problem —namely, falling revenue. Every authority was endeavouring to find ways and means of increasing revenue, but nowhere was there any suggestion of scrapping tramways.

lii Sydney, as a result of transport co-ordination, a deficit had been turned into a profit, and au order had been placed for 200 new cars of different design from those now in use.

"Jay-walking" in Sydney streets was also receiving attention. Pedestrians who persisted in crossing busy intersections in .in improper manner were now being -prosecuted and fined.
