EXERCISE OUTINGS

Several harrier clubs ou Saturday afternoon held informal runs, which should bo. of benefit to those who took part in view of the official opening of the Wellington season on Saturday next. The official opening run of the Scottish Harrier Club was held at Island Bay. There was a good attendance of supporters. Mr. W. Ballantyne, sen., president of the club, addressed tho gathering-, and then called upon Mr. R. W. MeVilly, patron of the club, to declare the season open. About 2o runners participated in a run of about five miles of easy going.

Several members of the Victoria College Club held an informal ■run. AH kept together in one pack under the leadership of tho vice-captain, G. Oliver. Nothing strenuous was attempted, tho trail, which was of about four miles and which led from Weir House, through tho Kelburn Gardens, round Karori, and back again to the house, being taken at a jog-trot. Afternoon tea concluded a very enjoyable afternoon's exercise.

Wellington Club members had a run at Lyall Bay. There was a large attendance of members and friends. Tho pack, under the charge of S. McKinnon (captain) and L. Watson (vice-captain), started from the bathing sheds, and went along the beach to the fishermen's huts, followed the hills to the Seatouii Tunnel, and then came back to Lyall Bay, via Broadway, the pipe-line, and Onepu Road, a distance of about four and a half miles. At Onepu Koacl a run-in was held, which resulted in a dead-heat between R Willetts and K. Hoy. S. McKinnon just beat Drawbridge for third place. The committee was pleased to see so many of the older members among the spectators to witness the club start.on its thirty-first harrier season, and hope that they and many more of the dub's past members will be present at Lyall Bay on Saturday next for the official opening of the harrier season.
