Tho Queen made an exhaustive shopping tour of the textiles and furnishin"' sections of the' British Industries Fair at the White City, Shepherd's Bush w., recently, states tho "Daily Mail " . Accompanied by the Earl of' Derby and officials of the exhibition, she spent more than two and a half hours touring tho displays. -. The first of her many purchases was of somo undorwear for the Kiug in bouth Africaii pure wool, while for herself she bought black, brown, and gun metal-coloured stockings, which she ordered to bo made with a double heel rather lower than'usual.
At another stand, which she- entered by a door marked "Tradesman's Entrance," tho Queen bqught a child's icrsoy and skirt suit in Botany wool, doco-' rated with Mickey Mouso pictures Uhroughout the tour she showed a preference for materials in blues, and on tho mannequin stand of tho Scottish Cloth and Clothes Trades she named a charmiifg soft.blue made up as a coat and skirt suit.
"You must call it 'Sandringliam Blue, 5 " the Queen said.
Her Majesty's unerring judgment in matters of dress was demonstrated- as she. watched the mannequin parade in the fashion theatre. Several ■■ gardenparty frocks were, being shown, with skirts trailing on the'ground. "The skirt in each case is much too long. I. would prefer it shorter, ?' she said. .
, Here, too, while watching the mannequins displaying Ascot gowns of tingham lace, slie was tola that Paris this year does not favour lace. ■■ '
"Then.we must set the- fashion, and give our industry a. chance," the Queen declared.
And forthwith she ordered two of the Nottingham lace- gowns to be sent to her at Buckingham, Palace.
