MAN BADLY BURNT

Fire following an explosion.: of petrol vapour caused severe burns to the face, arms, and body of Mr. Robert Adams shortly before noon today, :and he was taken to the Lewisham Hospital by the Free Ambulance. He was unconscious and in a very serious condition.

Mr. Adams was apparently treating tarpaulins with petrol in the washhouse attached to his .home at. 114. Rintoul Street. The flames from.-a fire under the copper exploded the vapour, setting fire to Mr. Adams's clothing and to-the washhouse. A next-door • neighbour rushed in immediately, and with, the help of, another man - dragged .Mr. Adams from the blazing building. The Fire Brigade was called and had no difficulty in suppressing the fire in the washhouse before any great damage had been done. ; '/

Mr. Adams, who is 52 years of age, was attended to by Dr. Childs before being taken to hospital. He is a partner in the firm of Adams and Blythj Ltd., cartage contractors and Customs agents. • ' '
