ANZAC DAY SERVICE
FUNERAL MARCH DROPPED
On the ground that a funeral march made the Anzae Day service too depressing, it was decided at last night's meeting of the executive of the Wellington Returned Soldiers' Association to delete this item from the ceremony at the war memorial. . i "I think that our service is too doleful," said the chairman (Colonel A. Cowles). "X would rather see .a note of triumph in keeping with the memorial itself." ' : The secretary (Mr. J. Spenee): This matter has come up year after year. I have moved it repeatedly, but '-.'at times I have been told to sit down. A member: Sir Charles Fergusson Said that our service was too doleful. The' Rev. W. Bramwell Scott: I am prepared to move that the funeral march be cut out,- if you will stand by the motion. - The motion was carried unanimously. It was decided to hold both the parade and ceremony ,at the memorial, and the service for next-of-kin and others at the Town Hall, in the afternoon. In the morning the only functions will be at the'schools, and it was decided to ask returned soldiers to attend these if possible.
