THE DEATH OF GLARE

Glare, an Australian-bred gelding whom the Trentham trainer J. W. Lowe bought cheaply for 100 'guineas and sold back to Australia for'3ooo guineas after he had raced him into first-class form here, recently became sick from an internal complaint and he had to be destroyed a fortnight ago. Ho proved a complete failure back in the land of his birth.

Glare reached what was to be the peak of his career when he won .the Autumn Handicap at the Wellington Autumn Meeting in 15)30 .and established Australian and New Zealand record : time of 2min 169isec for the eleven furlongs. That was. his last race in the Doniinion^ for immediately afterwards the Victorian sportsman Mr. J. Truskett purchased him for 3000 guineas. He was several times bucked in Australia but always failed. Finally he was disposed of for 100 guineas to the Mentonc trainer S. B. Ferguson, and last June he won a small hurdles ni Woodend, his only suoccss after his record-breaking feat.
