ON TRENTHAM TRACKS

MANAWATU PREPARATIONS

JENKINS RIDING AUTOPAY

The rain on Sunday and again last evening freshened up the tracks at Trontham, but with fine weather again setting in the benefit will possibly be very brief. The trial grass was iv use for fast work this morning instead of the plough, and most of the candidates for the Manawatu Meeting were galloped. The. going was still hard, but times on the outside of this track, where the work was done, are never very fast.

Palm Queen (W. ID. Shamlj and Cape lair (G. F. Dick) wont rather too fast over the first part of their mile trial, and although the former finished a couple of lengths in front she too had had about enough at the end. The first half was rim in 52sec and the last half in Giisec, making lmin 47sec for the mile. Hiding engagements have not been settled for this pair at Awapuni yet. Forestry (S. Wilson) stayed with 'Zetcs (P. Burgess)' for half a mile of their five furlongs, then slipped away to win the trial ; easily by three or four lengths •in lmin 7scc, the last half-mile in Slsec. Zctcs stops quickly when there is any pace on and he may never be more than a plodder.

Flower_ (Wilson), who now makes a very decided noise when galloping, ran seven furlongs alone in linin 34% see, the last half mile in 53sec. Purse (Wilson) beat Araios (Shand) by two lengths over half a mile in 51%scc.

The two-year-old Wahroonga (Dick) did the best half-mile of the morning in a tick over 50see,

Autopay (A. Jenkins), afti- beginning slowly, ran home from, the three furlongs peg in- 37sec and put plenty of vim into his work. . . '

: Joie de Va'l (Wilson) arid Pahu (J. I. McCauley) ' were practically together through their mile trial, the mare finishing a head in front in lmin 48 l-ssec, the last half-mile in SiMeec. Lovecourt (J. D. Martin) ran over seven furlongs alone in lmin 3!%sec, the last half-mile also" in 54% sec,

The- only other fivst-day Awapuui candidates,- Dignified March and Maypay, were given pacing only. Both these maidens .look well, but Dignified has not yet raced this season and may require a run or two.

.-An interesting gallop among horses to race later on was that of Normandy (Burgess), Who is':now' being tried over longer distance's aud ..will, probably .run in the highweights at the Wellington Meeting. He .went from winning post to winning post,'and he finished a neck in front of Suuee (A. Leach), whom he picked up at: the seven, furlongs.- He ran his last mile-in lmin 48see, last seven in Imin 34sec, and: last half-mile in Oasec, quite a fair effort lined through that of Palm Queen, and Cape Fair. Pegged Exchange (Leach) slipped over half a mile comfortably in 52% see. Tutor (Martin) beat Valdarado (D. Miller) by a length' and a half over five furlongs in lmin 4sec, the last half-mile in 51see. Might (J. K. Robertson) ran six furlongs well in lmin 17% sec, the last halfmile also in 51see.

Quietly (Shand) and Pioderick Dhu (Martin) tore into the first part of their five furlongs, and the former hung on a good hoad- the better in lmin 4scc, the last half-milo in 51% see. Eminent (Martin) alone ran half, a mile in D3scc. •Acceptable (L. Harding) did easy work only. LncUston (TJ. J. Mackie) ran the last half-mile of liis work under a pull in fißsec. '.:'...

'■Working the reversed way Colbssical (Leach) stretched out well over seven furlongs in, lmiri 32sec, the last half-mile iv 53sec.: This gelding has .been" accepted for the; Robinson Handicap at Ellerslio, and it is now probable th;U he will make the trip north.

Autopay will, be ridden in'the lritnherbert Handicap'at-the Manawatu Meeting by A. Jenkins..but L. G. Morris will be on him in the Palmerston North Stakes on the second day. Jenkins will also ride Hazoor , in„the. highweights. at;.,the meeting. " ' . ■ ; .-■"■•' •■'

S. • WilsonV engagements are' Miladi, Forestry, Revision, Synagogue, arid Maypay. P., Burgees will be riding'Lovecourt, Korero, and Ma Cheri.
