YACHTING
The Worser Bay Boating Club held its weekly handicap race for Idle Along class yachts on Saturday afternoon, a strong north-westerly wind necessitating all boats being well reefed. There were eight starters, the Whakanui, Pukaku, Suzette, Spinet, Eesult, Rarnii, Kathleen, and Knvi. The start was at 2.40 p.m., and was on the Mark Foy system. The Pukaku soon took the lead, which she held all through the race. Early in the second round the Kiwi, Suzette, and Ranui retired, and in the last round the Result, which was the only boat to set a spinnaker, capsized. The Pukaku crossed the finishing line first at 4h 13m 30s, followed by the Whakanui at 4h 17m 15s, the Kathleen at 41i 19m 30s, and the Spinet at 4h 22m. The race was won by the Whakanui (Smin), with the Piikaku (scr) second, and the Spinet (Smin) third.
