EVENING MEETING
One of the surprising features of the sports, meeting held in the Basin Reserve last ovening was the defeat of W. Ogg, of Olympic Club, the Wellington provincial half-mile champion, by Cooke, o£ Athletic Club, in the one mile A grade scratch race. The race was keenly contested, and there was an exciting fiuish. One Mile A Grade Scratch.—3l." Cooke (A.), 1; W. Ogg (O.)/2; A. Mackay (W.), 3. The racc^ developed into a duel between Ogg and Cooke, the latter finally winning by a yard after an exciting race. Tin;:, 4min 31sec.
