TALLOW AND HEMP

The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated December 10, :from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London:—

Tallow. —Quiet demand at auction; 927 casks' offered, of which 339 sold. Present spot quotations are:—Mutton: Fine, 24s 6d to 255; fair to good, 21s fid to 23s Cd; dark to dull, 19s to 20s. Beef: Sweet and/or mixed, 2?s to 235; fair to good, 20s Od to 21s 6d; dark to dull,'lß9 to 19s od. Mixed: Fair to good, 20s 6d to 21s 6d; dark to dull, 18s to 19s 6d. Gut, etc., 17s Gd to 19s 9d. Hemp.—Manila: Little more business doing. "X" gvade for December-February shipment sold at £13 10s. Sisal: Market firmer. No. 1 for January-March shipment sold at £15 10a; for February-April and March-May shipments, £15 los. New Zealand:' Market unchanged, with no firsthand sales reported.
