NEW AMERICAN CRUISER

THE ASTORIA LAUNCHED

WASHINGTON, December 16. The 10,000-ton cruiser Astoria was launched at the Puget Sound navy yard today. For. the. first time in thirteen years a Government craft was christened with champagne. The cruiser is heavily armoured, and carries special anti-aircraft batteries. Her engines are of more horse-power than those of a battleship, and her maximum speed is 33.7 knots.
