RONGOTAI CHOIR
TOC H FUNDS ASSISTED;
A concert in aid of the Toe H camp funds "was given at the Concert Chamber on Saturday evening by the choir and orchestra of Rongotai College. Local artists also assisted in the entertainment, but the ,larger part of the programme was provided by the college boys. The musical standard of the choir and orchestra was remarkably good and reflected credit ou the college. The audience was a very appreciative one, but owing to the length of the programme no encores were permitted. The orchestra, which was conducted by Mr. E. Meier, opened the programme with "Marche Militaire" (Schubert), and later played the sextet from "Lucia di Lammermoor" (Verdi) and the; "War Marchof the Priests" (Mendelssohn).. The contributions of the orchestra and. choir were supplemented by solos and other items, mostly by the pupils. - ... During one of the intervals the Rev. H. Leggate, who is visiting New Zealand in the course of an organising tour for Tqc H, addressed the audience, thanking the boys,- and congratulating them on their musical achievement. The choir, which was conducted by Mr. T. McOaw, sang the part songs "Shadows" (B. E. West), "Sweet and' Low" (Bamby), "Oh, to be in England" (A. Rowley), "Little White Roses" (F. E. Rich), and "The Rainbow"' (D.-H. Wassell), and the unison songs, "Shenandoah" (R. E. Terry), "Let the Bullgine Run," "My Johnny," "E te Arawa" (H. Piripata), "Matangi" and "Pokarekare" (Alfred Hill). An instrumental quartet (Pettit, Frain, Shakes r, and Mr. N. Raven) presented the bracket, "Moment Musical" (Schubert) and "Bourree in G'' (Handel); and in a humorous sketch; "Election Day," under the direction of. Mr. Clement May, the. characters were, taken by Misses Dorothy Seymour and Irene Franklyn and Messrs. Walter Ross and Carson. Other items, on the programme were the violin solos, "Old Refrain" (Kreisler), by Sims ii, and. "Czardas" (Monti), by Jenkins, and the songs, • "To a Miniature," by Brown iiii "John Mouldy," -by Gow ii, "The Pipes of Pan," by Jennings, "Silent Worship," by Collins, "The Birds Go North Again," by Slullen.iand "Minnelied" by Mr. C. A. Williams. The accompanist was Mr. C. H. Kerry.
