BUTTER MARKET
REPORTED FIRMER
Joseph Nathan and Co., Limited, have received the following cable from their principals, Trengrouse and Nathan, Ltd., London, December 16:—"Now Zealand butter: 6Ss to 69s per cwt; more doing. Cheese: White 4Ss, coloured 44s to 455; market quiet." The New Zealand Loan aud Jlercaiitilc Co. is notified by its London oflice, December 16, as follows: —''Butter market, after considerable sales of finest New Zealand at 67s to 68s per cwt, quotes tinner at the moment at 09s to 70s. Quiet." The Dairy Board is advised that the cheese market is firm with the retail prices unchanged. New Zealand, white, is selling at 48s to 49s per cwt (which equals approximately 5.23 d per lb, f.0.b.), and coloured, 44s to 455; Australian, coloured, 445; Canadian, white, 46s to 535; coloured, 46s to 50s. The board has also received the follow-1 ing cable from its agents in Canada:— '•Butter, New York, 21 cents per lb; Montreal, 23% cents." Messrs. A. H. Turnbull and Co. have received the following cable from their principals, Jlessrs. AY. AVcddcl and Co., Ltd., London, dated December 13:— "Butter: Danish, 115s to 116s per cwt; New Zealand finest, 6Ss to 70s; ''Kangaroo," finest, 68s to 70s; market slow. " 'Kangaroo' super and New Zealand finest pressed for sale at 68s. "Cheese: New Zealand white, 4Ss per cwt; New Zealand coloured, 44a to -455; Canadian, 465; market quiet." AUSTRALIAN PRODUCTION. The Dairy Board received a cable from London today stating that the price of butter for shipment next week lo England for sale has been fixed at 8d per lb finest and 7%d first. Beneficial rains have fallen in A rictoria, New- South AVales, and Queensland. Victorian production is decreasing, New South AVales production is increasing, and in Queensland production is rapidly increasing. The other States show a decline.
