DONATIONS FOR RELIEF
SAVINGS BANKS' GIFTS
In addition to approving various payments for charitable and other purposes, the Finance Bill now before Parliament permits savings banks which, since April 1, 1932, made duly authorised donations out of profits for 1932 and 1933, to regard the amounts as an expense in arriving at assessable income for the last financial year. Authority is given the Auckland Savings Bank, with the consent of the Minister of Finance, to pay out of its profits £10,000 to AVaikato Land Settlement Society, Incorporated, for application to the objects.of that organisation. The donation by the trustees of the bank of £250 to the renovation and improvement fund, account of the AAraitangi National Trust Board is validated. The trustees of the New Plymouth Savings' Bank are empowered during the current financial year to contribute out of profits £100 to the ■ Mayor's Relief Council.
