MUSICAL COMPOSITION
Entries for a competition . in .musical composition (song and pianoforte accompaniment), are invited by the Wellington Competitions Society, ami will form a special section at the festival next year. The conditions state that the music shall be tre original composition of the.competitpv. to words of his own choice, either be the original,composition of the competition is open to any person who lias been a resident in Xew Zealand for' at least fifteen years immediately prior to the closing of entries on March 31. The first and second prizes will be twenty-five guineas and five guineas respectively, but the society reserves the right to withhold or reduce the prize-money if there are less than ten competitors or if, in the opinion of the adjudicator, the standard of merit is not sufficiently high. _ The adjudicator will be an eminent musician not resident in New Zealand. Competitors are invited in selecting words for their songs to give preference to words which are specially applicable to New Zealand.
