BOYS' CREW SELECTED

Another interesting report before Wednesday's meeting was that of Mr. L. Waddel, selector of the Port of Wellington crew for tho 12ft 6in Z class New Zealand championship, the contest for which now commences on Otago Harbour on January 24, instead of January 20, as originally arranged. "For this year's" trials, as compared with last-year, the nominations showed an increase of three, and the material to select from iad considerably improved," the report stated, "there being a very marked improvement all round in the standard of efficiency, which increased the difficulties of a selector. Of the fifteen trials conducted there were out of twenty nominations eighteen starters. The whole of the trials were conducted opposite the Evans Bay clubhouse. The Heretaunga and Worser Bay boys, who had to journey a long distance,-very readily attended and each competod in trials on two- separate occasions. Tour selector is of tho opinion that all tho boys competing in the trials should have no difficulty whatever in being able to qualify to represent this port at the contest,' following this one. Most of the lads exhibited considerable ability in tactics, weatherly work, and in setting and housing their spinnakers. A final selection proved most difficult, there being several boys well worthy to represent tho port." As was stated in "The Post" on-Thursday, Mr. Waddel selected Evan Julian as skipper and D. Beck as forward hand.
