SUNDAY SCHOOL UNION
It was agreed at a meeting of the Sunday School Union on Thursday evening that the 11 district rallies held during October and November had been very successful. The opinion was expressed that while the district rallies should still be held, the Town Hall meeting should not be abandoned altogether, but might be held about every three years. The committees which conducted the rallies were thanked for their work, as a result of which over £26 was made available for the prize fund. It was resolved to hold a campfire meeting early in February, the president and the secretary being authorised to make all arrangements. Mr. R. G. Denton suggested a' house-to-house canvass for the purpose of securing new scholars for the schools.
The organiser of the union (Mr. W. E. Howe) has been able to send away l%cwt of toys, books, magazines, etc., to the children attending the extension schools in the country, and already word has been received of the happiness given to the recipients. Altogether Mr. Howe' has sent 944 articles which will ensure every scholar receiving something, and where there is need of clothing an endeavour is made to supply it. With a view to keeping in touch with these schools 258 letters have been forwarded bj&the organiser during the year. The following persons have contributed to this annual effort:—Meedames Foay, G. Rodda, Scrimgeour, Downhard, Ingram, Misses ]?. Shepherd, Oldfield, Kennedy,. Messrs. H. J. Thompson, Rouse, James, Gardiner, and the Brooklyn Methodist Junior Girls' 8.C., the Brooklyn Pollyanna Club, and the Maranui Girls' Club. To all these the organiser and the union express their sincere thanks.
