IMPROMPTU COMPETITIONS
On Thursday afternoon the annual impromptu competitions for the Morrison and Gow Cups were held at Rongotai College. In the senior section all speakers, Downes, Hinde, Knowles, Ponder, Rose, were faced with the same subject. "Mail," which was treated variously ;is blackmail, armour, and postal matter. T. Hinde was adjudged winner of the Morrison Cup, with J. D. Knowles second.
In the junior section there were many speakers, Arkley, Black, Chorlton, Cole, Collin, Holmes-Edge, Moore, Parkin, Philipson. Riddell, Scott, Smith, Thompson, and AVard, and, as was to be expected, the standard varied considerably. In this class each speaker received a definite subject. The Gow Cup was awarded to A. M. Collin ("AAMting Materials"), with F. L. Parkin ("Flowers") second. The judges were Messrs. F. Martyn Renner and C. Hi- Taylor, patron and president respectively it the College Dialectic Society, and associated with them was Mr. A. J. G. Heron.
