The first wool sale of the current season was held today, when 10,805 bales were submitted to a lnrge bench of buyers in the presence of an unusually large gathering of the public who evinced keen interest in the proceedings. ; Competition was spirited, prices being definitely firm s on those realised at Christchurch. Super merino brought up to 20Jd, and the top prico was for half bred at 21Jd, inferior realising 16d. Three-quarterbred wool brought from 13Jd to 19Jd, crossbred from 6^d to lojd, and Corriedale from lojd to 19} d. Pieces sold at up to 19Jd for merino, 20d for halfbrcd, 12id for three-quarter-bred, Sd for crossbred, and lojd for Corriedale; merino bellies to 13d, halfbrcd to 14M, three-quarter-bred to 10d, crossbred 9Jd; merino necks to lS^d, and half bred to; 19 d, three-quarter-bred to 16Jd; merino locks to lOd, halfbred to BM, threequarterbred' to 6d. Passings represented a. very small percentage. Mi1. J. F. K. Jamieson received top' price for halfbred,wool at 21 3-.Bd.
