VENICE FLOODED

AFTER A CLOUDBURST

FIFTEEN KILLED AT CHIOGGIA

A cloudburst, followed by heavy seas, flooded the whole of Venice to a depth of four feet above the normal water , level. The ground floors of many houses were flooded, and gondoliers were unable to navigate the rough water of the canals. Motor-boats are plying in St. ,- Mark's Square and porters are wading through three feet of water whilo carrying worshippers to the cathedral. Fifteen people were killed during tho storm in the village of Chioggia, near Venice. Snow has fallen throughout Northern Italy, and twenty thousand unemployed at Milan are engaged to keep the street* clear.
