The Immigration Restriction Amend* ment Bill, which provides for the con* tinuance of the continuation of the present immigration restrictions Until December, 1935, was put through.all stages and passed by the Legislative Council yesterday afternoon. In moving the. second reading, the Minister of Education (the Hon. R. Masters) said that it was essential during the economic depression that there should be a restriction of the immigration of persons whi» might be a charge on the public. It was hoped, if conditions improved, to> lift the restriction at the end of next year. The Council also passed the Companies Bill, the Trustees Amendment Bill, and the Harbours Amende inent Bill.
