ON ONE TRIP PER DAY
EASTBOURNE FERRY
A deputation of three, witn Mr. OL. N. Gillespie as spokesman, presented » petition to the Eastbourne Borough. Council last night requesting the lower* ing of fares on the ferry steamers. Subsequently the Mayor (Mr. E. W. Wise) moved that from Christmas Eve to the end of Tebruary the return faro should be Is for adults. Councillor A. T. R. Duncan seconded the motion. Councillor C. H. Andrews moved at an amendment: "Commencing on December 18, the return and/or single fare from Wellington be Is for adults or--6d for children on the 10 a.m. boat only, Mondays to Fridays inclusive, but excluding December 20, 26, 27, January 1, 2, and 22; this arrangement to remain in force until January 31, the fares during weekends and holidays remaining unchanged." Councillor G. Y. Berry seconded th» amendment. Later, on the suggestion of Councillor M. ■■ Magill, Councillor Andrews's amendment was altered to include the holidays until February 5, and the children's fare was reduced to 3d. The amendment moved by Councillor. Andrews became the motion, and was carried, Councillor Duncan asking to have his vote recorded against it.
