MIRAMAR COURTS

DECISION HELD OVER

When the question of the Wellington Provincial Lawn Tennis Association's connection with the Miramav courts canie up last uight the Mayor (Mr. T. C. A. Hislop) asked the reserves committee whe- . ther it would prefer to deal with the matter as a committee before having it brought before the council as a whole, or dealt with straightaway by the council. Councillor W. Duncan asked if it were possible to bring it up at all that night, as there was a former resolution deferring it for twelve months. Councillor Luckie contended that whether there was such a resolution or not, the recent deputation had asked for an early decision. While the present position was hanging over its head for tovelve months the association was unable to spend any money in improving the grounds, which it was to the advantage of the council that they should do. The Mayor, referring ta the resolution in question, said that the recommendation embodied in it was that the matter be held in abeyance until August, 1934, but it was still open to the council to deal with the points raised by the deputation if it wished to do so. The chairman of the reserves committee (Councillor J. Burns) said that before the question was discussed by the council it should be dealt with by the committee. The Mayor's motion to that effect was carried, the committee to report to the next meeting of the council.
