ADVANTAGES REALISED

(By Telegraph.) (Special to the "Evening Post.") DUNEDIN, This Day. The average length of stay in secondary schools for pupils leaving in 1932 was state* in the annual report of the Minister of Education as two years eleven months. In the Otago ■ Boys' High School, according to the I rector, the average for boys leaving at the end of 1932 or during the current year was three years eighteen weeks. In 1923 it was two years twenty-seven weeks, and in 1908. twq years eight weeks. The average age at leaving was.iii 1908 fifteen years eleven months, i ; After allowing for the influence of the present depression, stated the rector, it was clear there had been a steady improvement during the past twenty-five years. Parents generally had come to realise the advantages of a longer school period, and the boys themselves now had a stronger wish to stay on. It was also far more usual for boys when leaving to signify their intention of carrying on their studies in evening classes. These facts_ were a matter for very real gratification.
