ST. JOHN AMBULANCE
A social and dance held in the dining hall of the Hutt railway workshops' recently made a very successful conclusion to the year's work and pleasures. Tile room, was artistically decorated,, and excellent music ' was provided by Mr. Mailman. Sergeant A. J. Greenfield was M.C., and the committee consisted of Divisional Superintendent R. 0; Horwell, Ambulance Officers A. McPherstm, A. J. Ross, A. B, Gray, Sergeant E. E. Menzies, Corporal T. Pincock, and Messrs. R. Mullen, B. McKeown, W. J. P. Smith, all of whom assisted in making the evening a great success. Between dances musical items were given by Miss V. Clout; Messrs. Butterfleld, R. Mailman, and Clark, Mi\ W. E. Sutton being the accompanist. Mr. G. L. Peek played appreciated extras. During the evening District Superintendent J. P. Hislop presented the "Self-Help" Cup to the successful team at the recent' competitions, the members being) Corporal T. Pincock, Privates C. A. Puller, J. R. M. Hunter, and- W. J. Smith, ' divisional, superintendent. The cup was given for competition within the division for teams of four men. . A presentation -was also made, of an electric reading-lamp to Private 0. A. | Puller, of the H.V.R.A.D., who is short- | ly to be married' to Miss Lewthwaite, of the Lower Hutt. Nursing Division. Good wishes accompanied the gift, and Mr. Puller returned thanks for the gift and kind wishes expressed. Supper was provided by lady friends of the division, and was daintily set. out, by Mr. and Mrs. Lennie ! and assistants. ' Among those present were District Superintendent ' .T. P. Hislop, Corps Superintendent Mrs. C. Gaby, Corps Officer F. Divines and Mrs Elvines, Mrs. Marshall (president), Mrs: Helyer, and members of Lower Hutt Nursing Division, Sergeant Binns and members of Petone Ambulance Division, Miss Wells, former superintendent of the Hutt Nursing Division. There were many guests, and charming frocks added to the-gaiety and brightness of the scene.
