MASTERTON CATTLE FAIR

Wright, Stephenson, and Company, Ltd., report:—We held our supplementary cattle fair at Masterton on Wednesday when we offered a full yarding of cattle to fair attendance. Our entry comprised approximately 400 head of all classes of cattle. With the dry conditions prevailing in the Wairarapa and other districts, a very dull sale was predicted, and bidding was slow at the commencement of the sale, but brightened up later, competition for young steers being particularly good. For certain classes of cattle, the sale was back on recent cattle fairs, but generally prices were satisfactory, and practically a total clearance was effected as under: Fat cows, £2 16s to £3; fwd. cows, £2 to £2 12s; store cows, 38s to £2; cull cows, 20s to 28s; cows with calves, £2 6s to £3 Is; 2yr heifers, 35s to £2 4s; yr. heifers, 26s to 38s; 3yr steers, £3 4s to £3 16s; 2yr steers, £2 to £2 14s; yr. steers, 34s to £2 4s.
