MATHESON CASE
"NO RECOMMENDATION"
COMMITTEE'S REPORT
The claim by petition to Parliament of Annie Lillian Matheson, of Auckland, for £1050 compensation for alleged wrongful imprisonment has failed, according to the report presented to tho House of Eepresentatives today by the chairman of the Public Petitions Committee (Mr. F. Lye). The report was as follows:— I am directed to report that the Committee has given the petitioner and her counsel the fullest opportunity i>£ stating her case, has examined the petitioner, Departmental officers, and records, and after most careful and sympathetic consideration of the prayer of the petitioner finds .that the petitioner has not exhausted her legal remedies. The Committee, therefore,, has no recommendation to make. The Leader of the Opposition (Mr. M. J. Savage) thanked the Committee for its consideration, and said' that under the circumstances it could have done nothing more than it had done. I
