FREE AMBULANCE FLAG

A pleasing little ceremony took place at the Wellington Free Ambulance headquarters this morning whett a ■ house flag was presented by Mr. J. C. Port as the gift of the Victoria Bowling ' Club, of which he is president. The flag is a light yellow one with a red Maltese cross on it and the words "Wellington District Free Ambulance", .above and below the cross. Mr, Port paid tribute to the work of Mr. C. J. fi'. Norwood in establishing the Free Ambulance and to the work of the ladies' iquriliary'vlrider Mrs. Norwood. The flag, he said, was the production of three members of the Victoria Bowling Club. Others amongst the many present who paid tribute to the work of the Free Ambulance were the Minister of Health, iHon. J. A. Young, Mr. J. S. Keith, and Mr. C. M. Turrell, chairman of the Wellington Harbour Board. Mr. Norwood, who subsequently hoisted the flag, Mrs. Norwood unfurling it, thanked 2YA for broadcasting the ceremony, as it was impossible, he said, to send invitations to all supporters of the service. The Free • Ambulance, he remarked, showed an advance in philanthropic sentiment worthy of an enlightened people, and all could be justly proud of the work which had been started.
