MILITARY FUNERAL

LIEUT.-COL A. J. PETHERICK

In.recognition, of his long and valuable services in volunteering in Welington a military funeral was accorded Lieut.-Colonel A. J. Petherkk, of Paraparaumu, and formerly commanding officer of '(D" Battery, yesterday afternoon. The coflin was brought down by hoarse from Paraparaumu to Thorndon Quay, where it was transferred to a gun carriage, drawn by six horses, driven by members of the New Zealand Royal Artillery under Sergeant1 F. ~W. Bradshtiw. The firing party at the graveside was provided by the ' Training Cadre from Trentham. '. The chief mourners were: Messrs. Arthur Petherick (son), Arthur Petherick ( brother)', Claude Petherick (nephew), and Gec-rge.aiid A. J. Petherick (cousins). The pall-bearers, representing the Masonic Order and the Paraparamu Bowling Club, were: Messrs. -W. H. Potts', G. Brown, D. F. Watson, E. M. Campbell, L J. Howell, and A. I. Mackay Among the many mourners present were Messrs. Nigel Blair (Commodore of the Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club). W. Duncan (late commodore of the club), M. Mills (secretary of the Wellington Provincial Yacht and Motor Boat Association), David K. Blair, Mr. H. P. Barber, F. Picot, J. F. Woodward, H. W. Shortt, W. B. Hicks (president of the Wellington. Football Association), W. Rowe, Lieut.-Colonel H. E. Avery, and many others from Paraparaumu and Wellington. The service at the graveside was conducted by the I|ev. C. Strand, Paraparaumu. '
