ROWERS ACTIVE

COMING REGATTAS

A meeting of the Wellington Amateur ! Rowing Association was held last night. | _ Although :it was too early to make definite plans in connection with the interprovincial eights, to be held on Easter Saturday, !a suggestion that the prize money should be increased"from £25 to £50 met r with general approval and it was decided to co-operate with the Regatta Club with'a view 'to bringing this increase into effect. The proposal o£ the Wellington Association was that the wiuning crew' should receive £35, the second £10, and the third £5. An increase in I the prize' money, it was felt, would be appreciated by other associations, as it j would be of some assistance1 towards travelling expenses. The Mothes Shield Regatta was set down for. January 27 or February 3, whichever 'date did not clash witli the I Christcliurch Regatta. It was decided that the programme adopted last year should be adhered to with the exception that the welterweight junior four event should be replaced-- by open double sculls. An application from the Auckland Rowing Association for a loan of one of AVellington's «ight-oar boats for the iuterprovichtl eights was considered. The chairman (Mr. T. M. Hinkley) said that Auckland seemed to think that they were the only association that wanted to borrow a boat. In the event of Southland wishing to borrow it, he thought they had a better claim, as Auckland had the I boat last year. Mr. A.. White said that owing to the possibility of boats being damaged in j transit, the AA^ellington Association should keep its-second boat in reserve for the I use of any association that might need it J in an emergency. It was -decided to inform the Auck-! laud Association that the boat could not be lent this year, as it was thought ad-1 visable to:keep it available in case of an cmci-geuoy. Some discussion arose in connection with the late arrival at Potone of the Star and Wellington crews for the Norton Cup Ee-1 gatta. Representatives of the Star and AVellington Clubs explained that they were detained as the result of unforeseen circumstances. Their apologies were accepted, but it was decided that prompt starting should be insisted upon at all future regattas.
