ANGLING INCREASING
1270 LICENCES TO DATE
The increase of angling as a popular sport was referred to at th© meeting of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society last night, and it was considered further stocking would be imperative. The licences issued during the previous season totalled 1250. To date, with tho aeason less than, half . over, it was stated, 1270 licences had already been issued in tho Wellington district. The society had the responsibility, therefore, of keeping the streams stocked. Tho chairman (Dr. G. P. V. Anson) said the society . must realise that it was working up to its limit in finance. It might, be advisable to follow the very .excellent example set by Wairarapa anglersi in putting their hands into their own pockets to place fry in their rivers. Another million, fry stripped in the Wellington district would mean very little in cash. Many anglers would be glad to contribute, knowing that the rivers would show the benefit wtien. the fish had matured.
